Fourth Quarter 2014 Louisiana MSTA Newsletter Bob Chappuis, Editor

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Turn One

Minimal good news to report this quarter. A group trip to Arkansas for the Byway Boogie event ended unhappily for our man Dennis. He, Tony, Kevin and myself as well as Jim Girton of Olathe Kansas met in Ozark, AR a day ahead of the official Byway Boogie event. On Friday I continued north to Wichita to visit family for my youngest granddaughter's 2nd birthday. The LA group had an OK ride planned and I rode with them for about 60 miles as they were going in my direction. I heard later that Dennis went down in some gravel about 20 miles after I split off from the group. He suffered a broken wrist and required an ER trip and his new Triumph was totalled. Bummer! Other than his get off I hear it was a fun event.

Personally I have added some good miles this quarter to my annual total with the trip to Wichita, several to the Gulf Coast and local day rides in the Republic. The Ducati has been mostly confined to the garage with starting issues, having stranded me at the Chevron in Jackson despite a new (but cheap)battery. I have learned there is nothing cheap about Ducati ownership. I am in the process of installing a Motolectric High Capacity starter circuit upgrade and new Battery Tender Lithium Iron battery which will hopefully provide reliable starts. Happily, the Concours 14, VFR and KLX 250 have been reliable and have provided some good miles. Much of my spare time this quarter has been consumed by a major domestic construction project putting a crimp in my riding but over all it has been another great riding year with just over 25,000 miles logged for the year. No real ride reports this time but a few pictures.

Later...
Bob

A FEW SAPPY PICTURES FROM BYWAY BOOGIE WEEKEND

A Joint Jacko project by myself and 7 y/o granddaughter Gabrielle. She actually drew the face all by herself. Tony's electric vest failed him on the ride up. I diagnosed a bad switch and Engineer Kevin performed a successful repair. The bikes at the Oxford Inn. Loralai basking in the applause after a "chicken dance". Gabrielle and cousin Cale spent hours sitting on the Concours 14. I actually took Gab for a ride around the block. Her first!

I MAY ride to Stockton, AL (about 30 miles north of Mobile) for this non-MSTA event on Sunday, December 30. If I do I will be heading across the West Florida Republic via the Zachary Taylor Parkway to Poplarville, MS and continue on MS 26, US 98 and backroads to Stockton, AL, 245 miles from St. Francisville. My plan is to arrive by 11:30, eat, hang out and and mingle and be back on the road headed home by about 1:00. See event details below.
